Police release identities, charges of 8 arrested in Denver protest
The Denver Police Department identified the eight individuals arrested during a Wednesday night protest downtown near Capitol Hill.
About 100 people marched down East Colfax Avenue, chanting anti-Donald Trump and anti-police messages while carrying a banner that read “Death to racism and the liberalism that enables it.”
Sarah Marreel-Alley, 22, was charged with second-degree assault of an officer. Mark Noonan, 27, was charged with engaging in a riot. River Dougherty, 25, was charged with criminal mischief.
Megan Smith, 28, received the most charges, facing possession of a prohibited weapon, disobeying lawful order and obstruction of a street.
Four more people were charged with disobeying a lawful order: 29-year-old Ariel Wolff, 22-year-old Braedan Weart, 29-year-old Rebecca Carter and 23-year-old Logan Debyle. Debyle was also charged with possession of prohibited fireworks.
Police said they recovered a handgun, knife, hammer and bear spray when making the arrests.
Police also reported property damage along East Colfax Avenue, including graffiti, broken windows and a fire set in an overturned dumpster.
Police and its SWAT unit responded to the protest, deploying tear gas into the intersection of Colfax and Williams Street that dispersed the crowd.
