Construction worker rescued after falling into excavation in Denver

The Denver Fire Department rescued a construction worker who fell into an excavation Friday morning.

Greg Pixley, a captain with the department, said the man suffered nonlife-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Officials said they responded to report of a man falling into a 12-foot excavation for a new building in the 2200 block of Downing Street shortly after 11:30 a.m. Friday.

The department’s special rescue team was needed to rescue the victim, Pixley said.

“It was not a complex rescue, but it did take a finesse type of effort to remove him from the area (he fell),” Pixley said.
