Man wanted by Vail Police commits suicide in Arizona

A man wanted by the Vail Police Department committed suicide in Arizona as law enforcement officials attempted to contact him, police announced Saturday night.

Officials within the police department learned that Braden had fled to Maricopa County and alerted the county’s fugitive task force about his location, according to a Facebook post by the department.

Members of the task force after several hours of surveillance attempted to contact Braden, but he shot himself and was pronounced dead on the scene Saturday morning.

Law enforcement officials began looking for Vail’s former IT director on Nov. 13 after he removed his GPS monitoring device that was court ordered earlier this year.

He resigned from his position in 2018 after being arrested for soliciting a minor for prostitution.

Following his arrest on July 4, Braden was charged with violations of the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act, embezzlement of public property, theft, official misconduct, forgery and assault on a peace officer, after an 18 month investigation with assistance from the FBI, according to the post.

Authorities are still investigating how Braden fled Eagle County.
