Authorities rescue climber injured during rock fall incident.
Authorities say they rescued a 36-year-old Boulder man who was injured during a rock fall Friday afternoon.
First-responders responded to a report of a climber who had sustained head and possible other injuries after a rock rolled over him while he was descending in a gulley near 33800 Boulder Canyon Drive in Boulder County, just eight miles west of Boulder, according to a media release.
During his descent he dislodged “a substantial sized rock” and was able to take partial cover before the rock rolled over him.
Sugarloaf Fire Protection District personnel hiked into the area and located the injured man and provided first aid, before Rocky Mountain Rescue Group walked the injured party down the hill side to an ambulance, the sheriff’s office said.
Paramedics evaluated the climber and released him to seek medical care on his own.
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by American Medical Response, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group and the Sugarloaf Fire Protection District in the two hour rescue mission.
