Governor Jared. Polis and first gentleman test positive for COVID-19
Gov. Jared Polis and first gentleman Marlon Reis have both tested positive for COVID-19, the governor’s office announced Saturday.
Both the governor and Reis are asymptomatic and have been in social isolation since Wednesday,, the governor’s office said in a news release.
“Marlon and I are feeling well so far, and are in good spirits. No person or family is immune to this virus. I urge everyone Coloradan to practice caution, limit public interactions, wear a mask in public, stay six feet from others, and wash your hands regularly,” Polis said in the release.
On Wednesday, the governor’s office announced that Polis had started to self-quarantine after learning he was exposed to someone who had recently tested positive for COVID-19.
That day Polis tested negative for the virus.
Officials say the governor will continue to be closely monitored and will continue to perform his duties as governor remotely.
During an interview with Colorado Politics during the early days of the pandemic, Polis admitted that the chances of him contracting the virus were “very likely.”
State officials wished the governor and his partner well.
“As with anyone who has COVID, I hope they stay healthy and safe,” said House Speaker KC Becker. “Obviously just want to see him recover quickly. He’s got a really busy job always, and he works incredibly hard and does a lot for our state, so I just want to make sure he is able to recover quickly.”
