A former Longmont city employee has marked the city’s upcoming 150th birthday by writing a history of Longmont’s 31 parks.
Paula Fitzgerald, the city’s former parks and open space project manager and a landscape architect, wrote “Stories of Our Longmont Parks” to give readers an overview of the history of neighborhood and community parks.
“Our parks are our treasures,” she said in a news release. “These are our community gathering places where memories are made.
“Stories of Our Longmont Parks” was written by Fitzgerald, but she worked in partnership with the Longmont Museum and the city’s Parks, Open Space and Trail division.
“After realizing we’ve had no definitive history of our park system, I felt the team had come to fill that gap,” she said.
The new book is for sale online here, or by calling the Longmont Museum at 303-651-8374.
Proceeds of any book sold by the city’s Public Works and Natural resource department will go towards the Parks, Open Space and Trails Volunteer program, according to news release.
