Law enforcement seizes over 230 grams of meth, heroin in Fremont County
More than 250 grams of methamphetamine and heroin were seized by the Canon City Police Department on Sunday, officials said.
Officers also seized drug paraphernalia and a semi-automatic handgun with two fully loaded 28-round magazines during a search of a vehicle, police said.
Officials received a tip at 9 p.m. Saturday, that a 36-year-old man driving a white BMW was dealing heroin in Fremont County.
Since the tip came from Fremont County, Canon City police notified the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.
Shortly after receiving the tip, officers found the suspected vehicle along Highway 50 in Canon City where a traffic stop was initiated.
When approaching the vehicle, an officer saw a handgun inside and detained the driver, Quinton Sanders, and the female passenger.
Minutes later, the police K-9 unit performed a sniff of the vehicle and indicated to officers the presence of narcotics, officials said.
A search ensued and officers seized 234.3 grams — about a half pound — of methamphetamine, 21.9 grams of heroin, drug paraphernalia and a semi-automatic weapon.
Quinton has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, possession of drug paraphernalia and traffic offenses.
The female passenger as released without charges.
