The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad (ACBS) has determined that a device recovered from near an Englewood high school on Saturday was an explosive device, officials said.
Englewood police officers responded to a call at Englewood Alternative High School at 300 W. Chenango Ave. at 4 p.m. Saturday after a report of a suspicious package was spotted on the football field.
Upon their arrival, officers located the device that resembled a pipe bomb and radioed for back-up from ACBS.
Englewood police officers secured the scene while waiting for the bomb squad’s arrival and surveyed the area for other devices.
The bomb squad successfully obtained the object from the field and after further investigation determined it was an explosive device.
On Wednesday, officials from the Englewood Police Department responded to a similar report of someone leaving a “cylinder with tape” near the north fence line at Rotolo Park at 4401 South Huron St.
Englewood PD says a non-explosive device was discovered at Rotolo Park Wednesday
EPD officers again requested assistance from the ACBS, but officials determined that package was not explosive.
Officials from the Englewood Police Department are asking anyone with information about the device to contact dispatch at 303-761-7410.
