The Colorado Department of Transportation’s regional bus network focused on connecting rural areas together will be easier than ever to purchase a ticket.

CDOT announced Thursday the launch of the Bustang Outrider ticketing app that will allow riders to purchase tickets cash-free, contactless and on any mobile device.

“This new mobile app will make Outrider’s ticket purchasing process simple, safer and more convenient,” said CDOT’s Director of Innovative Mobility Kay Kelly. “We’re looking forward to providing our passenger with a contactless and safe way to purchase their bus tickets anytime, anywhere.”

The app was developed by Masabi, a London-based technology company, and is available on the App Store or Google Play, officials said.

“We are excited to be partnering with Bustang once again to power their new mobile ticketing app, and help build an even safer public transit ecosystem across Colorado that encourages riders back as we move through and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Masabi CEO Brian Zanghi.

Along with the app, Bustang Outrider has launched a new texting service that will provide real-time updates about delays, detours cancellations or schedule changes.

Outrider currently serves five routes from Durango to Grand Junction, Gunnison to Denver, Alamosa to Pueblo, Lamar to Colorado Springs and Craig to Denver.

Anyone wanting to subscribe to receive alerts can text “outrider” to 833-711-0252 or sign up online at ridebustang.com/text-outrider.
