Arvada man missing after hiking trip to Hessie Trailhead in Boulder County
Search and rescue teams are looking for a 27-year-old Arvada man who didn’t return after embarking on a hike in Boulder County on Wednesday morning.
Officials said the man left for the hike about 9:30 a.m. He was reported overdue at 6:18 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said.
The man was believed to be planning to hike the Hessie Trailhead in Nederland. Officials later found his vehicle near the trailhead.
A ping showed his cellphone was near the Continental Divide Trail about noon.
Five search and rescue teams looked for the missing man throughout the night, covering a large area of terrain but found no sign of him.
Rescuers used skis, snowshoes and snowmobiles during the search, but winter weather conditions and high winds created difficulties, officials said.
The search continued throughout the night into daylight hours. Rescue operations resumed Thursday.
The sheriff’s office and Rocky Mountain Rescue Group are leading the search efforts.
