Denver weather: Bitter cold temperatures, snow throughout the weekend

Northern Colorado

Drivers should watch out for dense fog that could decrease visibility during the morning commute in Denver on Friday, the National Weather Service in Boulder said.

The fog is likely to clear up by 9 a.m. otherwise skies are expected to be cloudy and snow is possible before 4 p.m. at a 40% chance with little or no accumulation expected.

Temperatures are expected only to reach a high of 22 degrees with winds between 3 to 7 mph, according to the weather service.

Overnight temperatures are expected to drop to a low of 5 degrees with mostly cloudy skies and light breezes between 5 and 7 mph. There is also a 30% chance of snow before 11 p.m. and chance of flurries after 11 p.m. the agency said.

Snow is expected to stick around through the weekend with chances of more next week, the weather service predicts.

“Temperatures through the rest of the weekend will continue to be below average, maybe even record-breaking,” Denver Gazette news partner 9News reported. “Expect chilly highs in the teens Friday and Saturday, and dipping into the single-digits by Sunday.”

Here’s the rest of this week’s forecast from the National Weather Service:

Saturday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 20 degrees and calm winds between 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. A chance of flurries before 11 a.m., then a chance of snow or flurries after 11 a.m. New snow accumulation of less than one-half inch possible.

Sunday: Snow likely, mainly before 11 a.m. Cloudy and cold, with a high near 10 degrees and winds between 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
