Fort Collins PD investigating crash involving ambulance

Ambulance

An investigation is underway in Fort Collins after a motor vehicle crash involving an ambulance occurred just east of the Colorado State University campus.

No serious injuries were reported, but both drivers and a passenger inside the ambulance were transported to be treated for minor to moderate wounds, officials from the Fort Collins Police Department said.

The ambulance was not transporting a patient at the time of the accident.

The Fort Collins Police Service received a report of vehicle collision involving a UCHealth ambulance in the area of South College Avenue and East Elizabeth Street at 6:41 a.m. Thursday.

The Fort Collins Police Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling Team was dispatched to the scene and took over the investigation.

Investigators learned the UCHealth ambulance was responding to a call and was traveling north along College Avenue with its sirens and lights activated, FCPD officials said.

When the ambulance reached the intersection at Elizabeth Street, it collided with a 2013 Chrysler 200 sedan that was being driven by a 67-year-old man.

Officials were on scene for a total of three hours and closed roads between Garfield and Elizabeth Streets.

Investigators are attempting to determine whether speed played a factor in the collision and are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Officer Ken Koski at 970-416-2229.
