Injured climber rescued after falling from First Flatiron in Boulder
A 25-year-old climber was rescued Saturday after he was injured falling from the First Flatiron, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies said the climber was scrambling behind the First Flatiron when he fell about 10:15 a.m. The climber fell approximately 20 feet and injured his lower leg, leaving him unable to walk.
A passing group of hikers provided the climber with first aid as they awaited rescuers.
Officials from the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group and City of Boulder Open Space Mountain Parks responded, providing medical care and packaging the climber into a litter for evacuation.
Lost, out-of-bounds snowboarder rescued off Aspen Mountain
The climber was carried out to the trailhead where a waiting ambulance took him to a hospital. He was still hospitalized as of Sunday afternoon.
The rescue took about four hours.
Agencies that assisted in the rescue included the Sheriff’s Office, City of Boulder Open Space Mountain Parks Rangers, American Medical Response and Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
