A man is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder after a 3-year-old boy died this week at an urgent care center in unincorporated Larimer County.
Jaime O. Rodriguez, 27, is also being held on suspicion of child abuse-death after allegedly assaulting the child for misbehaving on Wednesday.
According to a release from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Collins Police Service was dispatched to a local urgent care after an unconscious and non-breathing three-year-old was admitted around 3:25 p.m. Wednesday.
Despite the efforts by the medical staff, the child was pronounced dead. LCSO investigators were contacted by FCPS because the child lived in unincorporated Larimer County.
During the initial investigation, officials learned the boy was allegedly assaulted by his mother’s boyfriend, Rodriguez, for misbehaving inside of a business, according to the release.
The child was taken home and two hours later brought to the urgent care after another family member noticed the child was unresponsive.
Information regarding the boy’s cause and manner of death will be released at a later date by the Larimer County Coroner’s Office.
During the initial investigation, Rodriguez was arrested for an outstanding parole violation and booked into the Larimer County Jail.
On Friday, Rodriguez was arrested again on suspicion of first-degree murder and child abuse-death, according to LCSO.
