Liam Wilkinson, a primary school teacher in Australia, has pleaded guilty to sending indecent material to a child after he was discovered to have sent lewd photos to a 13-year-old in Colorado.
The investigation was led by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office sex offender internet investigations unit, Cheezo.
The first photo sent to the victim in March 2019 was reported to Cheezo, who then took over the victim’s persona to communicate with the suspect.
After Cheezo took over, the suspect, later identified as Wilkinson, sent multiple more inappropriate photos of himself to a law enforcement officer portraying the 13-year-old victim.
In May 2019, Cheezo investigators identified Wilkinson as the suspect, a then-25-year-old working as a teacher at Milgate Primary School and living in Warrandyte, Victoria in Australia.
The Sheriff’s Office worked with Interpol and the Australian Federal Police to execute a search warrant and eventually file charges against Wilkinson.
On March 28, 2021, Wilkinson plead guilty after a “compelling” testimony from one of the Cheezo investigators, the Sheriff’s Office said.
According to the Victoria Institute of Teaching, Wilkinson has been suspended from his teaching position since 2019.
Cheezo investigators have been responsible for over 920 arrests in Jefferson County since the unit’s inception in 2005.
