Key member and leader of drug trafficking ring sentenced to 6 decades in prison

A man who sold over 1,400 pills containing Fentanyl — a deadly opioid — was sentenced Friday by a Boulder County judge and will spend the next six decades behind bars.
Michael L. Reed, was sentenced to 60 years in prison after previously pleading guilty to the state’s top count of pattern racketeering, distribution of a controlled substance and money laundering, according to a release from the 20th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
According to the release, Reed was a key member and leader of a drug trafficking organization and sold methamphetamine and counterfeit oxycodone pills that contain Fentanyl.
Prior to Reed’s arrest, he had an history of manufacturing, distributing and possessing illegal substances. Based on his history the prosecution recommended the lengthy sentence.
“This drug operation took a terrible toll on our community and he preyed upon individuals in the throes of drug addiction,” said 20th Judicial District Attorney Micahel Dougherty in a release.
“This man pushed a tremendous amount of drugs into this community for his own profit … I appreciate the tireless efforts of the investigators and Senior Deputy District Attorney Erica Baasten in bringing this drug ring to justice.”
