The riot on March 6 began as a party near 10th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in the University Hill neighborhood around 5 p.m. Around 800 attended the event, which violated the city’s COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings.

When officers arrived, around 100 of the party-goers began pelting officers with glass bottles, which prompted the activation of the Boulder Police Department’s SWAT Unit.
