Airbnb extends party ban through end of summer

Nearly one year after Airbnb banned parties at its listings, the company is reminding Denver that Memorial Day weekend events are off-limits.

As of August 2020, parties and events are not allowed in Airbnbs globally and guests are capped at 16 per listing. The COVID-19 precaution will remain in place until at least the end of this summer, the company announced Thursday.

“Travel is coming back and we’re beginning to see COVID restrictions easing throughout the U.S.,” the announcement said. “We want to help our Denver community make this transition safely.”

This comes as rates of COVID-19 have steadily decreased in Colorado since the winter.

Denver, and its neighboring counties, lifted the majority of COVID-19 restrictions last week, including all capacity and social distancing limits. However, as a private company, Airbnb is able to establish its own COVID-19 restrictions.

Guests who violate Airbnb’s rules will be suspended or banned from the platform, and might face legal action, the company said.
