“Mayday, mayday, mayday” plane makes crash landing in northern Colorado

Two people were sent to the hospital after a single-engine plane made an emergency crash landing just northeast of Fort Collins Friday morning.

The pilot radioed into the Northern Colorado Regional Airport, that the plane was making an emergency landing with two passengers inside due to an “engine out” at 10:38 a.m., according to air traffic control archives.

“We have an emergency landing, we’ll be landing in a field, mayday, mayday, mayday,” he said.

The plane crash landed in the area of North County Road 1 and Sunwater Way, east of Cobb Lake, said Chris Wolf, a spokesperson for Poudre Fire District Authority.

Wellington Fire Protection District was the first to arrive on-scene and located two individuals who were inside the plane at the time of the crash. One of the parties was airlifted to a local hospital, while the other was transported via ambulance, Wolf said.

The victims status is unknown.

Wolf said the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration have taken over the investigation.
