Ball Arena approved for near-full capacity for next round of Avalanche, Nuggets playoff rounds
Even more fans will be allowed into the Ball Arena for the upcoming rounds of the Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets playoff games as the venue has been approved to operate at near-full capacity.
Ball Arena, formerly known as the Pepsi Center, announced the increased capacity Thursday. Though safety restrictions of the NBA and NHL do not allow the venue to operate at full capacity, it will significantly increase the number of fans allowed.
The venue will allow 18,300 fans for Nuggets games (90.7% of basketball capacity) and 17,400 fans for Avalanche games (95% of hockey capacity). Previously, the venue only allowed 10,500 fans for all games.
“We are thrilled to bring Ball Arena back to near full capacity for future Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche playoff series,” Matt Bell of Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, the venue’s owner, said in a release. “We couldn’t be more grateful.”
The new capacity limits are set to begin for the upcoming rounds of the NBA and NHL playoffs at the venue.
Because of previous ticket sales and capacity approvals, the venue cannot increase its current 10,500 capacity if the Nuggets play the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 7 on Saturday or for the Avalanche’s remaining home games in their series with the Vegas Golden Knights.
The increase in capacity was approved by the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment under the conditions that Ball Arena enforce mask wearing, complete health assessments for fans and meet certain air circulation requirements.
All guests older than 2 must wear face masks in the venue at all times except when eating or drinking in ticketed seats. The mask requirement includes in the parking lot, plaza, concourse and while seated. Guests are also asked to keep a 6-foot distance between parties when possible.
All policies and procedures are required regardless of a guest’s vaccination status, officials noted. Guests who fail to comply with the mask and social distancing requirements could be removed from Ball Arena without refund.
The change comes as rates of COVID-19 have steadily decreased in Colorado since the winter. Denver and its neighboring metro counties lifted the majority of COVID-19 restrictions last month, including all capacity and social distancing limits.
Additional ticketing information will be released by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment at a later date should the Nuggets and Avalanche advance to the next round of the playoffs.
Playoff ticket priority will be given to Avalanche and Nuggets ticket plan holders and partners. If additional seats remain available, fans who sign up for limited ticket release waitlists will be notified. For additional ticket information, visit ColoradoAvalanche.com and Nuggets.com.
