Overdue hiker found safe by crews in Boulder County
A 32-year-old hiker was found safe by search in rescue crews Saturday after the person was reported missing Friday.
First responders learned the hiker never reached the area of Hessie and Fort of July Trailheads, near Nederland on Wednesday, because he arrived to the area just before they were reported missing, according to the release from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
The hiker returned home to his family after interacting with responders, deputies said.
The search for the hiker began around 2:45 p.m Friday when the Boulder County Communications Center was made aware of the overdue hiker. The caller told dispatch the hiker left for an overnight hike on Wednesday, but never returned the following day, according to the release.
Members of the Boulder County Emergencies Services Units, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, Front Range Rescue Dogs and Boulder Emergency Respond are assisting with the search.
On Friday, approximately 20 people searched for around 8 hours but were unsuccessful. Crews continued the search earlier Saturday with the additional assistance from aircrafts that will be providing reconnaissance and search efforts, according to the news release.
The search was suspended by 3 p.m. Saturday.
Information regarding the victim is not being released at this time.
