Man in custody after multiple shootings around Arapahoe County
A 25-year-old man is in custody after allegedly driving around and randomly firing a handgun, striking one person.
911 dispatchers began receiving multiple reports about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday of a man in a silver Honda driving and firing a gun in the area of East Drive Creek Road and South Clinton Street.
Multiple Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the area and shortly learned the suspect pulled into an apartment complex in the 7300 block of Havana Street, said John Bartmann, a public information officer for the sheriff’s office.
Deputies located the suspect in his vehicle and performed a high-risk stop. The man surrendered to authorities and was sent to the Arapahoe County Detention Center.
About the same time, a 66-year-old man called 911 at a Sinclair at Arapahoe Road and Peoria Street, stating he was shot in the leg, said Bartmann.
First responders arrived on scene and observed a bullet hole in his door “that went through the seat and struck him in the leg,” Bartmann said.
The victim informed deputies he was shot near East County Line Road and Inverness Drive.
Since, one witness and the victim have positively identified the suspect as the shooter, Bartmann said.
Investigators have not uncovered a motive behind the man’s shooting.
Currently, the 25-year-old alleged shooter is facing first-degree assault charges, but could be charged with more within the coming days as the sheriff’s office continues its investigation.
Information regarding the shooter is not being released due to the high number of witnesses that may be able to identify the shooter.
“We don’t want that pool of witnesses contaminated by a mug shot or name,” Bartmann said.
