Most downtown construction to halt ahead of MLB All-Star Game at Coors Field

Most construction projects in downtown Denver will be paused in the coming weeks as city officials clear space for visitors ahead of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Coors Field.

From July 8 at 6 p.m. to July 14 at noon, the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure will ban the use of right of way street occupancy permits and deny permit applications in several parts of the city.

This will prevent construction projects that close travel lanes, parking lanes, alleys, bike lanes and sidewalks in order to allow for the anticipated increase in visitors coming to watch the All-Star Game.

Restriction areas include Speer Boulevard to Broadway Street and Interstate 25 to Colfax Avenue and the areas around Civic Center Park, the Denver Convention Center and the City and County Building.

Construction projects in the right of way of these areas will only be permitted on an emergency basis, officials said.

In addition, the department will also deny parking meter bagging requests and special event permit requests that require street closures. Those holding events are encouraged to do so on private property and apply early for city approval, officials said.

The Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be hosted by the Colorado Rockies on July 13 at Coors Field.

It will be the second time the All-Star Game will be held at Coors Field, with the other time coming in 1998. The event consists of the All-Star Game, the home run derby and the draft, which will be held at a different location in Denver.
