Skier dies in Rocky Mountain National Park after falling more than 400 feet
A skier died Sunday morning after sliding more than 400 feet down a snowfield into rocks on Sundance Mountain in Rocky Mountain National Park, the park announced in a news release.
Rangers responded to an unconscious skier on the mountain’s north-facing side midway between Trail Ridge Road and Old Fall River Road, the park said.
The skier, a 68-year-old man from Loveland, died from injuries during the slide. He was wearing a helmet, the park said.
Bystanders saw the fall and tried to provide first aid and contacted park rangers.
The Northern Colorado Interagency Helitak team flew the skier’s body to the Upper Beaver Meadows area and transferred him to the Larimer County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office, the release said.
The man’s name will be release after next of kin are notified, the release said.
