Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies opened a death investigation after a body was found near a small creek at Chatfield State Park on Tuesday afternoon, law enforcement said.

South Metro Fire Rescue recovered the body east of the park’s Discovery Pavilion near Waterton Road and Wadsworth Boulevard, firefighters tweeted.

Firefighters said they did not know what led to the death but the investigation was ongoing.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said it believes the body is of a man.

The victim has not been identified and no details about how he might have dies have been released.
