Two jail deputies were injured during an altercation with an inmate at the Larimer County Jail on Friday, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said.

The incident happened while the facility was going on lockdown around 6:30 p.m., according to the news release.

Authorities said the altercation began after inmate Dontre Woods, 18, refused to return to his cell after multiple orders by staff.

Deputies attempted to gain control of Woods, who then punched a deputy in the face, according to the release.

Additional deputies tried to get Woods under control, but the inmate resisted and threatened to harm jail staff.

Eventually, deputies deployed two stun guns on the man to gain control and place handcuffs on Woods. During this process Woods injured another deputy’s leg, according to the release.

After Woods was subdued, he was checked by the jail’s medical staff.

The two deputies were transported to a local hospital for their injuries and were eventually cleared to return to work.

Woods, who has been incarcerated since December 2020, was previously charged with a slew of crimes including first-degree possession of contraband, second-degree burglary and criminal mischief with explosive, according to the release.

Authorities are seeking to add two felony assault charges to Woods case.
