Colorado Springs girl killed on mine drop ride a District 49 student
The girl who died at a mine drop amusement ride in Glenwood Springs on Labor Day attended a Colorado Springs elementary school, district officials said Wednesday.
The girl, 6, was a student at Stetson Elementary School, district officials confirmed Wednesday, adding that they wouldn’t release her name. On Tuesday, the Garfield County Coroner’s Office also said they would not identify the girl, at her family’s request.
“The coroner’s office does their best to balance the release of information to the public and the privacy of families while they grieve the loss of a loved one,” it said in a press release.
The coroner’s office performed an autopsy of the girl on Tuesday, which found several blunt force trauma injuries on her body. The office said they’re still working to determine the final cause and manner of the girl’s death.
David Nancarrow, a spokesman for District 49, said that the district is providing the necessary support to the family, as well as to students and staff affected by the girl’s death.
“We share the grief of the family going through a heartbreaking loss,” he said.
