Broomfield man charged with first-degree murder in mother’s death

Prosecutors on Thursday charged a Broomfield man with first-degree murder in connection with a double stabbing that left a woman dead and a man seriously injured on Monday.

Joseph Majewski, 31, was charged with first-degree murder after deliberation, attempted first-degree murder after deliberation and first-degree assault, with two violent crime sentence enhancers, the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said.

The deceased victim was identified Thursday as the suspect’s mother, 59-year-old Laurie Majewski, according to the Adams County Coroner’s Office. Authorities have not released the name of the surviving victim.

According to public records, Joseph Majewski and his mother lived together in a house in the 13000 block of Grove Court in the West Lake neighborhood, where the stabbing occurred.

Police said the stabbing happened just before 5 p.m. Monday. After receiving a 911 call, police found a woman dead and a man suffering from serious injuries. Both victims had apparently been stabbed, police said.

Police have not released additional details about what led up to the stabbing or how they identified Joseph Majewski as a suspect.

The Adams County Coroner’s Office had not released Laurie Majewski’s official cause or manner of death as of Thursday afternoon.

Joseph Majewski is being held in the Broomfield County jail without bond, according to jail records. He is scheduled to appear in court at 9:30 a.m. May 6.
