Denver murder suspect arrested in Tennessee

A 28-year-old man wanted in connection with a murder in Denver was arrested in Nashville, according to the Denver Police Department.

Police said Le’Velle D. Brownlow was wanted in the fatal shooting of Kolade Arijie, 33, on March 9.

Denver officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 5200 block of North Yampa Street just after 10:30 p.m. on March 9 after reports of a shooting.

Authorities arrived and located Arije unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics arrived and pronounced him dead just before 11 p.m., according to an arrest affidavit.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene and interviewed two women who were at the apartment around the time of the shooting.

Both witnesses identified the shooter as “Vell” and told investigators Arije and Brownlow were arguing over money prior to the shooting. Arije allegedly grabbed a ‘large gun’ and told several girls and the suspect to leave his apartment, according to the affidavit.

One witness told investigators that Arije put the gun down as he tried to convince one person to stay, but then pushed everyone, including the suspect out.

Brownlow then gave his backpack to one of the witnesses and then allegedly pushed his way back into the apartment and the witnesses told investigators they heard gunshots as they left the building, according to the affidavit.

Investigators acquired a search warrant for the suspect’s backpack and was several items were recovered that assisted with the positive identification process, according to the affidavit.

On April 11, officials served a T-Mobile search warrant for Brownlow’s phone number on the night of the incident and learned he went to a hotel along West Colfax Avenue before leaving the next day.

His location showed he went south through Illinois towards Nashville, according to the affidavit.

Investigators later found a toothpaste bottle that had a fingerprint on it and positively identified Brownlow. An arrest warrant was then issued on March 17.

Brownlow was arrested in Nashville on Wednesday, according to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, and is currently awaiting extradition to Denver. He is being held on on suspicion of first-degree murder.
