US 36 reopens after 4-hour closure for investigation

U.S. 36 reopened early Wednesday morning after being closed for about four hours for a police investigation.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office closed the highway in both directions between Federal Boulevard and Sheridan Boulevard at around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday for an active investigation, according to a tweet from the ACSO.

Several hours earlier, deputies were called to the Villas on 76th apartments at 2002 W. 76th Ave. on report of a gunshot wound victim, according to Adams County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Adam Sherman.

The female victim was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Officials believe the incident was related to domestic violence, but cannot confirm that, Sherman said.

Several hours later while deputies were on scene, a car drove by with several people in it, one of whom deputies recognized as a suspect in the shooting, Sherman said.

Deputies chased the suspect vehicle and the suspect fired shots at deputies, according to the tweet. They stopped the vehicle and took all of its occupants into custody without injuries.

All lanes of U.S. 36 reopened just before 8 a.m. Wednesday, according to the tweet.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office has not responded to the Denver Gazette’s request for further information.
