5 injured, 1 killed, in southeast Denver shooting
A shooting at a Denver apartment complex Wednesday night left five people with gunshot wounds, killing one, according to Denver Police.
It started as a fight in an apartment at the Grammercy Apartments, 9600 E. Girard Ave., across East Hampden Avenue from Kennedy Golf Course. Officers got a call of shots fired at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday.
“Preliminary information indicates that an assault occurred in an apartment, the victim left the apartment and later returned with other individuals resulting in a confrontation between multiple parties outside the apartment during which gunfire was exchanged,” a police spokesman said via email Thursday.
Of the five shot, one was a 17-year-old boy, three were adult males and one adult female.
Three were transported to the hospital by ambulance, according to police, and two drove themselves. The man died at the hospital.
“All remaining victims are expected to survive their injuries,” the spokesperson said. “Detectives believe at this time that all parties involved in this incident have been identified and/or contacted.”
Officials provided no identifications — the victim who died will be identified by the Denver Medial Examiner after an autopsy and family are notified. No information was provided about arrests or potential charges for those involved.
