Denver police investigators continue to search for a suspect, or suspects, in an April double homicide at the American Elm restaurant in Denver’s West Highland neighborhood.
Now, Metro Denver Crime Stoppers and the Denver Police Department have raised the reward for information leading to an arrest to $32,600. It’s the third time the potential reward has grown.
Emerall Vaughn-Dahler, 34, and Ignacio “Nacho” Gutierrez Morales, 58, were killed inside the American Elm restaurant in the West Highland neighborhood on April 24.
Anyone with information in helping catch the suspect(s) may be eligible for a reward of up to $32,600, according to a press release by Metro Denver Crime Stoppers. The reward was initially set at $2,000 and was raised to $25,000 in June. The new increase is due to the “incredible generosity of the community,” the release noted.
Both victims were shot and killed around 12:30 p.m. on April 24, according to the Denver Medical Examiner’s Office. The restaurant is on West 38th Avenue between Tennyson Street and Perry Street.
Vaughn-Dahler was the restaurant’s general manager. Morales was a line cook.
“We couldn’t be more grateful for the outpouring support from our community,” said Danney Goracke, Metro Denver Crime Stoppers vice president. “This tragedy happened late in the morning, on a busy street and I am confident that someone has information. We are hopeful that this increase will lead to the break that investigators need to solve this crime.”
Metro Denver Crime Stoppers encourages anyone with information related to the homicides to reach out to 720-913-7867. All callers will remain anonymous.
Goracke asked for people in the area to check into door bell camera or dashcam footage that they may have in the area around that date.
“Vaughn-Dahler had a child,” he said. “They deserve answers.”
The restaurant re-opened for Mother’s Day weekend.
