Tour De Corgi 2023: Colorado’s cutest parade hits Old Town Fort Collins
If you hear a cacophony of barks in Old Town Fort Collins this weekend, be sure to check your ankles. The ninth annual Tour De Corgi kicks off at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Fort Collins’ Civic Center Park.
Founded in 2014 by corgi owner, Tracy Stewart after she wanted to create an equivalent to SoCal corgi beach day, Tour De Corgi (which is a nod to another major Ft. Collins event, Tour De Fat), is the largest Corgi meetup in Colorado with hundreds of attendees each year.
For the uninitiated, corgis are a breed of dog renowned for their unique appearance—short legs, long bodies, and perky ears. The breed gained notoriety as the preferred dog of the deceased Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. Their charming disposition and amusing antics have made them internet stars and a favorite among dog enthusiasts. Classified as a herding breed, and originally bred to herd cattle, corgis are known for their loyalty, intelligence, and, of course, their endearing “stumpiness.”
The theme for this year’s Tour De Corgi is “Comi-Corg”, so expect to see quirky and fun canine costumes centered around your favorite comic book, fantasy and science fiction-themed characters.
Saturday’s Tour De Corgi events schedule is as follows:
9:00 a.m. Vendor set up
9:30 a.m. Registration, Meet-up & Vendor Booths begin
10:00 a.m. Costume Contest begins
12:00 p.m. Parade begins at Civic Center Park.
2:30 p.m. Event ends
Proceeds from this event will benefit multiple charities including 4 Paws Pet Pantry, Colorado Corgis and Friends Rescue, Wyoming Dachshund and Corgi Rescue, and Bandit’s K9Care.
The event admission is free and open to the general public, whether they have a corgi companion or not.
