Aurora police investigate fatal double stabbing in an alley
Desmond Thomas and Otto Washington were killed near East Colfax Avenue and Lima Street
The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office has identified two victims killed during a double stabbing in alley in the Del Mar Parkway neighborhood on Monday.
Officers were patrolling near the 11200 block of East Colfax Avenue around 8 p.m. on Monday when someone approached them and said there was a man laying nearby at the intersection of East Colfax Avenue and Lima Street, according to a press release by the Aurora Police Department. Police found the man — later identified as 44-year-old Desmond Thomas. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries.
Officers were also alerted that there was another man stabbed nearby in the 11300 block of East Colfax Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a man — 58-year-old Otto Washington — had also been stabbed. He was taken to a nearby hospital and later died from his injuries.
Both men were identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday, according to a press release. Their deaths were classified as homicides.
Aurora police detained two people of interest on Tuesday, according to the press release. Both were interviewed by homicide detectives. One was let go and the other was arrested on unrelated warrants.
The stabbing was the second violent crime in the area in two days. A man was shot near Colfax and Lima on Sunday around 3 a.m., according to another release by the department.
