Love those science fiction/fantasy/horror stories? The Denver Marriott Tech Center will be packed with authors, artists and fans for this weekend’s 54th annual MileHiCon55, 4900 S. Tributes to loved ones who have died are the Viva Colorado focus at a traditional Día de Muertos Parade & Festival in two parts Saturday. The 11 a.m. parade begins at 7th and Santa Fe to 13th Street and Mariposa with floats, marching bands, Catrina skulls, lowriders and Asian community dragons. The festival goes noon to 8 p.m. in Civic Center Park with vendors, food, Catrina contest, altar (ofrenda) art, lowriders and a long list of international music entertainers. vivacolorado.org/dia-de-muertos

The zombies are “Walking Dead” style all over Lodo streets on Saturday during the Zombie Crawl to more than 10 bars and nightclubs. “Big Jack’s Boo Bash,” free “spooktacular event” happens from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Outlets of Castle Rock, 5050 Factory Shops Blvd. Face painting, DJ and costume contest are just the start. Treats passed out by the Castle Rock Fire and Rescue, Castle Rock Police Department and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department. Take a picture with the “world’s biggest pumpkin” Big Jack — the 16-foot-tall, 15-foot-wide, 1,500-lb. steel pumpkin is proudly on display outside the 4th Street Courtyard near H&M and Polo Ralph Lauren, and participate in the interactive Halloween Scavenger Hunt. Homemade burial coffins on wheels and racing, costumed pallbearers head down the Avenue in Manitou Springs at noon Saturday for the Emma Crawford Coffin Races. There’s a longtime history of Emma, who moved from the East as a child for the medicinal springs water. When she died she was taken to her special place on Red Mountain, only to have her coffin washed away down the mountain. The 29th annual races are in her name. Parade at noon, races follow and an after party in Soda Springs park. “Perfect Patchwork” Quilt Show welcomes travelers at Denver International Airport now and clear through the whole busy holiday season.
