Traveling Mercies now open

The co-owners of Aurora’s popular restaurant Annette opened a new oyster and cocktail bar in Aurora called Traveling Mercies at 2501 Dallas St.

Chef Caroline Glover, a James Beard Foundation award winner, and her husband, Nelson Harvey, opened the walk-in only restaurant last month.

The menu includes “raw bar favorites like oysters and shrimp cocktails,” according to a news release, as well as “comfort food classics” like wedge salads and seasonal bread pudding. The oysters are sourced from Hama Hama Washington and Island Creek Oysters from Massachusetts.

The cocktail menu includes staples like wine, but “rum is the favorite child of Traveling Mercies.”

“Glover’s culinary approach is simple and artful with a respect for ingredients and how they’re farmed,” according to the news release. “She parlays this point of view into an elevated yet familiar menu of bar food at Traveling Mercies.”

The restaurant is open from 4-10 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday. For more information, visit travelingmerciesbard.com.

L&L Hawaiian Barbeque opens in Denver

Denverites looking to get a Hawaiian “plate lunch” can now visit the fifth Colorado location of L&L Hawaiian Barbeque at 575 Lincoln St.

Owned and operated by Brian Cung, the menu includes barbecue meats, rice plates and the “world-famous SPAM Musubi.”

“We’re happy to join the other locations across the Centennial state to bring Aloha through authentic Hawaiian flavors,” Cung said in a news release.

The first L&L opened in Aurora almost 20 years ago.

Manila Bay closing soon

One of the only sit-down Filipino restaurants in the metro Denver area, the Manila Bay restaurant at 13800 E. Mississippi Ave. in Aurora, is set to close Jan. 25, its owners announced on Instagram.

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the closing of our family business, Manila Bay,” the owners posted. “As owners & operators of the business & property, we are shifting our focus to property management & we are retiring from the restaurant industry.”

New operating hours were announced as 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

“We would like to express our gratitude to our customers & staff for their support & for their love of the restaurant, the cuisine & the experience,” according to the post. “Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our journey.”
