Person suffering medical emergency dies in UCCS campus gym

A person is dead following a medical emergency in a college gym Monday evening, according to University of Colorado Colorado Springs spokesperson Chris Valentine. 

Officials said at roughly 5 p.m., a person exercising in the campus recreation room collapsed. 

Valentine said numerous gym patrons quickly tried to assist the collapsed person, rendering CPR and other life saving measures as medical personnel made their way to the area.

According to officials, the person was pronounced dead on the scene. 

Colorado Springs Police Department spokesperson Caitlin Ford said officers with the department responded to the scene Monday evening to assist, however, UCCS campus police were handling the case. 

According to Valentine, no foul pay is suspected at this time. 

“We are doing our best to commend those who ran to help (Monday),” Valentine said.

The name of deceased has not been released at this time.
