Denver voters in the Ebert Metropolitan District in Green Valley Ranch on Tuesday ousted a district board member, according to the unofficial results.
Murray Hawthorne, an elected board member and treasurer for the Ebert district’s board, was subject to a recall election petition, which claimed he did “not represent” Ebert residents.
Hawthorne’s recall petition required 300 signatures. The petition received 464 valid signatures, according to the Denver’s Clerk and Recorder office.
A total of 1,029 Eber district voters went to the polls on Tuesday, which is roughly 11% of area’s registered voters. By a large margin, 838 voters chose to oust Hawthorne, according to the unofficial tally by the clerk’s office.
Voters were then asked to vote for Hawthorne’s replacement, Khadija Haynes, who ran unopposed. Hawthorne’s term was slated to end in 2025.
The bulk of the Ebert metro district is situated in north Denver up to east 56th Avenue and runs to Green Valley Ranch Boulevard between Telluride Street and Picadilly Road.
The board president did not respond to an email, or calls, for comment.
