Looking ahead, Aurora city government has a slower week coming up, with Presidents Day closing municipal offices and courts Monday and five board and commission meetings happening throughout the week.

The city of Aurora has 31 boards, commissions, committees and authorities made up of resident volunteers appointed by the City Council.

Boards and commission meetings are open to the public. 

The Metro Water Recovery Board, which sets policy for the operation of the sewage disposal district, meets Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Robert W. Hite Treatment Facility, 6450 York St. in Denver. Its agenda was not posted on the city’s website as of Friday afternoon.

The Board of Adjustment and Appeals, which reviews and rules on applications for variances and waivers from the city’s Zoning Code, meets from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Aspen Room, 15151 E. Alameda Pkwy. Board members will go over applications and conduct interviews for board candidates.

From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Open Space Board — which advocates for open space and recommends acquisition of open space properties, improvements to facilities and reviews site and project plans — will meet at the Plains Conservation Center, 21901 E. Hampden Ave.

Members will discuss ideas for an “outdoor series” of meetings and field trips, opportunities for the board to table, upcoming cleanups, action plan priorities, and recruiting two new board members. 

From 6 to 8 p.m. on the same day, the Election Commission — which establishes precincts, appoints election judges, creates ward boundaries and breaks ties in municipal elections — will meet virtually. It had not posted an agenda as of Friday afternoon.

On Friday, the Public Defender’s Commission, which ensures that indigent clients are represented independently of any political consideration or private interests, will meet from 12:15 p.m. to 2 p.m. virtually. Its agenda was not available online as of Friday afternoon. 

The City Council will hold its next meetings on Monday, Feb. 26, with a study session at 5:15 p.m. and regular meeting at 6:30 p.m.
