Aurora Police arrested a man on vehicular homicide and DUI charges following a two-car crash that left a woman dead on Sunday night.

The crash occurred at the intersection of east Alameda Avenue and south Potomac Street around 8:40 p.m., according to an Aurora Police Department news release.

Denver resident Damian Sanchez-Balderas, 19, drove an Infiniti sedan through a red light when traveling eastbound on Alameda, police said. The Infiniti collided with a Ford Focus turning left on a green arrow south on Potomac, according to police.

A female passenger of the Ford Focus was thrown from the car and died at the scene, police said, adding the driver of the Focus suffered only minor injuries.

Balderas was transported to the hospital.

Upon release from the hospital, Balderas was sent to the Aurora Jail and charged with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, reckless driving and driving with a revoked license, according to police.

Police said Balderas’ revoked license is from habitual traffic offenses.

Sunday’s crash is Aurora’s fifth traffic-related death this year.

The investigation is still ongoing.
