Colorado’s first Buc-ee’s has an opening date

The cult-favorite Texas gas station chain boasting the ”world’s cleanest bathrooms” will debut in Colorado on March 18, Buc-ee’s announced Wednesday.

The new travel center will open in northern Colorado in Johnstown off Interstate 25 and County Road 48, marking the chain’s expansion into the state.

The 74,000-square-foot gas station on 5201 Nugget Road will have 116 gas pumps and 12 electric charging stations.

The location will open at 6 a.m., Buc-ee’s said.

The massive gas station began construction in 2022. The Texas-based chain has 48 stations across the south in US states Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee and Missouri. Alongside Colorado, Virginia is also poised to get a Buc-ee’s, with construction starting this year.

“We picked a great partner in the community of Johnstown for our first store in Colorado,” Buc-ee’s Stan Beard said in a statement. “At the foothills of the beautiful Northern Front Range, this Buc-ee’s will introduce all sorts of bikers, hikers, skiers, and campers to the cleanest restrooms, friendliest staff, and freshest food they’ll ever find on a road trip.”

The Johnstown station is expected to bring 200 jobs to the area, according to Buc-ee’s.
