Crashes and highway closures: Snowstorm pummels Colorado
The heavy snow pummeling Colorado have closed several highways in the Front Range.
The Colorado Department of Transportation said Interstate 70 between Silverthorne and Denver is closed in both directions, as is U.S. Highway 40 from I-70 to Mary Jane Ski Area.
Loveland pass, U.S. Highway 6, remains closed, as does Colorado Highway 119 between Blackhawk and Highway 6. A jackknifed semi-truck has U.S. Highway 285 southbound closed just south of C-470.

Yesterday, Arapahoe County Public Works decided to close the Cherry Creek Damn Road at 1 a.m. on Thursday, and the road will remain closed until further notice. Drivers should use I-225 or South Parker Road as alternatives, transportation officials said.
As of last night, drivers entering or traveling on Colorado’s highways in the mountains faced the following closures:
I-70 Westbound at milepost 259, west of Denver
I-70 Westbound at milepost 228, Georgetown
I-70 Eastbound at milepost 205, Silverthorne
US-40 Berthoud Pass, both directions, milepost 235 to 257, Winter Park to I-70
US-40 Westbound at I-70 WB milepost 259

Meanwhile, fallen powerlines have also led to a road closure in Lakewood, according to West Metro Fire Rescue.
Powerlines from traffic lights at the intersection of West 26th Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard fell into the road around 10 a.m., according to a social media post from the department.
The damage led to the closure of the intersection for east to west traffic as the department works to clear the lines from the roads. Alternate routes are advised.
Southbound I-25 had been closed down at the exit to southbound I-225, while Denver police officers investigate a two-vehicle crash there.
No serious injuries were reported at the time, according to a social media post by the Denver Police Department.
Many area police departments are going to “crash alert” status — meaning if a traffic crash has no injuries and there’s no suspected alcohol or drug use, people should simply exchange information and report to the police later.
Douglas County Sheriffs Office also reported crash alert status, as well as Aurora Police, according to social media posts on X.
In other areas, roads on the east side of Rocky Mountain National Park are closed, including Trail Ridge Road, Bear Lake Road and Wild Basin Road. Trail Ridge Road on the west side of the park remains open to the Colorado River Trailhead.
Beaver Meadows Visitor Center and Fall River Visitor Center on the east side of the park will be closed today. Kawuneeche Visitor Center on the west side of the park is scheduled to have a delayed opening at 11 a.m.
