Snowstorm causes outages in metro Denver, Xcel reports 26,000 customers affected

Xcel Energy, Colorado’s largest energy company, reported nearly 1,000 power outages in metro Denver, affecting tens of thousands of customers on Thursday.

Xcel noted 928 reported power outages in the metropolis, 24 of them occurring near the Lakewood area, where West Metro Fire Rescue was responding to downed power lines.

Xcel Energy earlier said 26,052 customers are affected by the power outages, including in the following places: 

  • Jefferson: 12,726

  • Arapahoe: 4,664

  • Boulder: 3,968

  • Denver County: 2,058

  • Douglas County: 556

  • Adams County: 298

“We’ve increased crews and strategically placed them through the metro and foothills to respond to outages as quickly and safely as possible,” an Xcel spokesperson said on Thursday morning.

As of 12:30 p.m., Xcel confirmed 712 outages in the state, affecting 30,906 customers, according to an Xcel spokesperson. 

Crews will continue working overnight to help restore outages, the spokesperson added.
