Cashews sold at Trader Joe’s in Colorado recalled for salmonella threat
Some cashews sold at Trader Joe’s in Colorado have been recalled by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) due to traces of salmonella contamination.
Four lots of Trader Joe’s 50% Less Sodium Roasted & Salted Whole Cashews were recalled by the FDA on Monday, according to a news release from the agency. Routine testing done by the agency found that at least one of the four lots had contained salmonella — an organism which can cause serious and fatal infections in children, elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.
The specific product, distributed by Wenders LLC of Dublin, California, was sold in 16 states, including Colorado, Utah, Kansas and New Mexico.
The potentially affected nuts have the SKU Number 37884. The lot numbers of the affected nuts are T12139, T12140, T12141 and T12142, according to the press release.
The product can also be identified by its origin from India or Vietnam, printed above the lot number on the back of the bag.
As of Monday, no illnesses regarding the nuts have been reported.
“Consumers who have purchased a recalled product are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund,” the agency said.
