Two kayakers fell into the water Saturday night at the Chatfield Reservoir. One swam to shore with serious injuries and one was found dead Sunday morning.
South Metro Fire Rescue firefighters initially responded to Chatfield State Park around 8 p.m., according to the fire department on social media platform X.
The two kayakers fell on the west side of the reservoir near the Fox Run Picnic Area. One kayaker swam to shore and was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, South Metro Fire Rescue officials said.
The search for the other missing kayaker was later upgraded to a recovery operation, according to the fire department.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s department took over the operation with Colorado Parks & Wildlife officers.
The CPW Marine Evidence Recovery Team deployed an ROV underwater drone to search the area.
Following an overnight search, a man’s body was recovered in the reservoir on Sunday morning, Jefferson County Sheriff’s office said.
The time at when the kayakers fell in and when the body was found remains undetermined.
