A 50-year-old man died in the hospital following an alleged road rage incident early Monday morning north of Denver off of Interstate 25.

Colorado State Patrol reported to a rollover crash at 5:45 a.m. on Monday on the southbound E-470 ramp exiting I-25, the department said in a news release on Tuesday.

Based on witness reports, a 24-year-old driver of a Toyota 4Runner engaged in “aggressive driving behaviors with numerous vehicles on I-25 before exiting on E-470,” CSP officials said.

The 4Runner sped onto the E-470 ramp and engaged in more aggressive driving with a white passenger vehicle, troopers said. The SUV then lost control and rolled over onto the southbound lane without making contact with another vehicle, according to CSP.

As the 4Runner was at a stop, a Toyota Tacoma crashed into it, CSP officials said.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, according to CSP officials. The 50-year-old driver of the Toyota Tacoma was later was pronounced dead, troopers said.

The 24-year-old man remains in the hospital, CSP officials said on Tuesday.

The crash investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed, CSP officials said.

The identity of the 50-year-old man, who troopers said was from the area, was not immediately released.

Authorities are trying to determine whether the 4Runner had any working lights, due to it being dark outside at the time of the crash.

Investigators ask those with information on the incident, particularly those involved on the offramp during the crash, to call CSP at 303-239-4522.
