Adams County man sentenced to 75 years for 3 sexual assault cases
An Adams County man will spend 75 years in prison following a guilty plea regarding three separate cases of sexual assault in 2022.
Adams County District Judge Brett Martin sentenced 36-year-old Devin Reese to 75 years in prison Tuesday following Reese’s guilty plea to three counts of first-degree assault and three counts of criminal attempt to commit sexual assault — both felonies — on Jan. 12.
The judge sentenced Reese to 25 years per victim, stemming back to three separate incidents in the spring of 2022, according to a press release from the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
The first incident occurred on April 24, 2022. Reese met with a woman advertising sexual services online in Commerce City. Upon arrival, Reese pointed a gun at the woman and sexually assaulted her.
Reese also stole the victim’s cellphone. He used the phone to send text messages threatening the victim’s family if they contacted law enforcement.
The defendant committed a similar crime on May 10, 2022, when he met with a woman from the internet in Thornton. He convinced the woman to get into his vehicle and drove her to a park “against her wishes,” according to the press release. He then threatened the woman with a gun, assaulted her and stole her cellphone.
Reese then met a woman in the parking lot of a convenience store in unincorporated Adams County on May 20, 2022. He forced the woman into his car with the threat of a gun, drove off and assaulted her.
Following investigations, Commerce City police arrested Reese in September 2022.
The defendant still has a pending sexual assault case in Indiana.
“This defendant preyed on innocent victims and committed truly unspeakable crimes,” District Attorney Brian Mason said in the press release. “This 75-year prison sentence is more than just for these horrific acts. The bravery of these victims cannot be overstated.”
