Colorado home to country’s ‘6th best’ waterpark

USA Today’s 10Best has released their 2024 ranking for best water parks around the country, and a destination in Colorado made the cut to be included in the top 10.

The ranking is established by a people’s choice vote from the public, with editors weighing in to help pick the 20 spots included in the final vote.

Ranking 7th was Water World in Federal Heights, Colorado.

According to the publication, Water World is one of the largest water parks in the country, spanning roughly 70 acres. Included among more than 50 attractions and slides is the Alpine Springs Express Gondola, which is reminiscent of a ski lift, known for giving an excellent bird’s-eye view of the area.

About 10 miles from downtown Denver, Water World has been in operation since 1979, typically open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Another one of its most famous rides is the ‘Voyage to the Center of the Earth,’ on which riders travel through an artificial cavern on inflatable tubes. It’s also home to three wave pools, including one that holds more than a million gallons of water.

Water World opens for the season on May 25. Tickets for the season start at $34.99 for general admission but climb to about $40 once peak season hits.

The top ranking water park in the country on the US Today list was Splashway Water in Sheridan, Texas.
