Highway 85 shut down following “massive” hit-and-run crash

Both directions of Highway 85 in northern Commerce City were shut down Thursday afternoon after a “massive” crash interrupted the entire highway, the Commerce City Police Department said.  

Officers responded to a crash around 12 p.m. on Highway 85 near 104th Avenue, according to a social media post from the department. The crash was described as a “multi-vehicle hit-and-run collision involving a semi and dump truck.”

Commerce City police began doing traffic control in the area, diverting commuters onto 104th Avenue or Highway 76 while the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and Colorado State Patrol handled the crash.

Southbound lanes of Highway 85 reopened around 1 p.m. Northbound lanes remained closed. 

No injuries have yet to be reported by the department following the crash.
