Additional details released in 90 MPH car chase over Colorado’s Hoosier Pass

Teller County officials have released additional information related to a high-speed pursuit that took place in the area of Hoosier Pass.

According to authorities, deputies of Teller County responded to a local hospital following up on a report of a woman who had suffered serious bodily injury during an alleged domestic violence incident on May 18. The suspect in the case was identified as Mark Lewis Tuckel, with authorities believing Tuckel, a previous felony offender, may be in possession of a firearm.

A ‘be-on-the-lookout’ alert was issued by the Teller County Sheriff’s Office to surrounding counties, with the Park County Sheriff’s Office spotting a vehicle matching a provided description. Park County law enforcement initiated a pursuit, but terminated that pursuit once it was deemed too dangerous. Law enforcement is said to have followed the suspect through Alma, starting up Hoosier Pass toward Breckenridge, with the suspect allegedly traveling at speeds of up to 90 miles per hour and maneuvering into opposite lanes.

Once on the other side of the pass, the suspect reportedly wrecked in the area of the town of Blue River, sustaining serious injuries. The suspect was airlifted to a Denver-area hospital for treatment.

In the initial warrant for the arrest of suspect Tuckel, charges included felony menacing, felony assault, domestic violence, harassment, and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

For reference, Hoosier Pass connects Park to Summit counties, known for its steep and winding nature. It reaches an elevation of 11,539 feet above sea level.
